17 Rabbits Rescued: Sylvester/Neeson's Happy Ending

Image
Ivy Dene Rabbit Rescue, alongside many other rescues, saved 17 rabbits that had been exploited for breeding at shows whilst being neglected and deprived of their 5 freedoms behind the scenes.  Unfortunately, Some 'stock' weren't good enough to show. They were going to be shot if they weren't collected. We only helped with one rabbit out of all that were rescued. Neeson was originally housed in rescue at Clement Rabbit Rescue but was later transferred to us. We renamed him, Sylvester. Although Sylvester was transferred to us, the amazing Clement Rabbit Rescue still rehabbed Sylvester and ensured he was neutered and fully vaccinated. All we had to do was find him the perfect home. Sylvester was a gorgeous young and tame German lop. He got on great with other rabbits. We were confident we would be able to find him a home swiftly. Sure enough, we had an enquiry. After vetting the home, we were hopeful we found Sylvester the happy ending he deserved. He was due to meet a new...

Enoch, Egbert, Einstein, and Edward

Today's post will be about 4 rats who came into our care on the 26th of June 2019. They've had various final outcomes!  The rats arrived as their previous owner could no longer care for them. Sadly, the rats weren't kept in suitable conditions - we don't think it was malicious mistreatment. The rats were kept within close proximity of smokers. As rats have sensitive respiratory systems, it caused significant irritation with some of the rats.  Once they arrived in our care, they were quarantined and monitored for potentially undetected health issues. We will separate the post into sections regarding an individual rat. Fortunately, he had, and still hasn't h...

Bowie, Bonzo, and Brian

Image
Today we wanted to discuss three rats, Bowie, Bonzo, and Brian. They came into our care after their previous owner contacted us via social media. Sadly, they could no longer care for their beloved pets.  We were happy to accommodate them in our property to provide reassurance that their rats would be well looked after. Once their owners were content, the boys were officially handed over to our care. We performed thorough health checks on the approximately 1-1.5-year-old rats.  Bonzo: Bonzo was in good health but did have a small abscess located on his back. Fortunately, no surgical intervention was required and the issue resolved on its own. We hope the abscess stays away but only time will tell.  Bowie: Bowie was in full health. Brian: Brian had a more concerning problem. He had a very prominent limp with his back-left limb. The limb appeared visibly swollen - suggestive of trauma/injury. We believed we were dealing with a possible break, fracture,...

Lukrecia

Image
As our previous post could be considered quite heavy, we've decided to base today's post on something more lighthearted. Meet Lukrecia!  Lukrecia was being given away as a male Roborovski dwarf hamster. We snapped 'him' up as we knew a dear friend had been enquiring about robos for a very long time.  Our dear friend is a talented veterinarian who's trained to work with some exotic animals, small animals, and farm animals for a long time. They fell head over heels with one of our previous resident robos/one of her favourite patients - Hedwig. After witnessing how well she cared for Hedwig, we knew she would make the perfect robo-owner. Lukrecia turned out to be a female Roborovski who'd been incorrectly sexed. Her exact age is unknown, but she was under 6 months old when she arrived. She was a typical robo; quick to handle, but full of character. Our beloved friend has since adopted Lukrecia. We cannot tell you how loved and cared for she is. Thr...

The Large Syrian Hamster Intake

Image
Today's post is about the Syrian hamster rescue that took place on the 13th December 2018. 4 cohabiting Syrian hamsters were being given away. The hamsters were clearly too old for it to still be considered safe for them to be sharing accommodation - Syrian hamsters are strictly solitary .  Some of the information contained within this post may be distressing to some readers; we've ensured the post is separated into labeled sections with clear warnings wherever appropriate. For inquiries about adoption, please email us or contact us via our social media pages ! Details and links will be enclosed at the end of the post. The Rescue: Contains distressing content! Upon our arrival, the hamsters were already screaming and fighting. There was a lot of blood and severe injuries already visible. Sadly, there was also a fatality; one of the Syrians had been brutally killed by his cage mates within the time it took for us to arrive - we were able to take his body home for a ...
