Wiggum and Leonard: Reuniting Stray Animals
Wiggum and Leonard were two stray ferrets found within close proximity of each other a couple of days apart.
Leonard:
Leonard was found as a stray after he wandered right into someone's family home. We were contacted and went to retrieve the ferret. We scanned for a microchip but, sadly, there wasn't one.
Leonard was a hob and appeared to be a much-loved pet. We always appeal for an owner when finding a stray animal.
Wiggum was an unchipped hob handed into Charter Veterinary Surgeons in Congleton as a stray. We offered him accommodation within our facilities and agreed to continue appealing for the owner.
Unfortunately, we were unable to find the owner during the appeal period. The ferrets were then considered ours and we planned to microchip, neuter, and vaccinate both males.
Surprisingly, we were contacted by an individual who believed the ferrets were theirs. The images of the ferrets the owner provided in their home environment showed that the ferrets were, in fact, theirs beyond any reasonable doubt. Despite that, we were mindful that the ferrets were under our care and ownership now.
As pet owners ourselves, we believed in these circumstances, that it was only fair the owner was allowed to adopt their ferrets back through our adoption program should the owner want to given that they would be going back to a good home.
We're happy to say; the ferrets are happy and settled back in their fabulous original home!
