R.I.P Tuc

Hello readers,

We wanted to write about losing Tuc to a tumour a short while ago.

Tuc was a really loving hamster, we had him since he was tiny. During his time with us he touched many people's lives, he was even featured in a calendar! He had such a large personality, it was impossible to not fall in love with him.

Throughout Tuc's life he was extremely healthy, and had no illnesses.
Until one day, we discovered a small lump and took him to the vets, he was trialed on a course of antibiotics to rule out it being a cyst.
Whilst Tuc was on his antibiotics the lump actually grew larger. It was then we knew it was a tumour.

When Tuc went back to the vets for a check up, the vets confirmed that it was a tumour, likely to be cancer. We discussed what the outcome would be for Tuc and what to do next. The vets decided it would not be in Tuc's best interest to try and remove the tumour for various reasons; the tumour was firmly attached to Tuc and it would have been very big surgery for something so small. It was also quite likely it would come back.
We agreed not to operate and give Tuc the best remaining life he could possibly have.

Tuc did very well whilst battling his illness.
He was very strong, very brave and most importantly, very happy. We saw Tuc multiple times a day, took lots of photos, bought him new toys, and gave him a couple of extra meal worms (his favourite). He also had regular vet visits to ensure he wasn't suffering at any point.

The tumour continued to grow at a steady rate, and Tuc continued to battle for over a month.
During his final days, Tuc had slowed down significantly and was struggling to move around a bit, the tumour was also a considerable size. We decided it was best for him to be put to sleep before he really began to suffer, as he would have deteriorated quickly at this point.

During Tuc's final vet visited, the vets reassured us that we were doing the right thing and told us we got him at the perfect moment.

Tuc left a huge hole in our lives, and he will be deeply missed.
Sweet dreams angel.
